Hungary and Budapest in Pictures - Sopron 2

Not only Sopron alone, however, but also its highly cultured surroundings are rich in treasures of art. Old Churches of great artistic value, magnificent castles and imposing ruins are eloquent testimonies of an ancient civilization. Frescoes by illustrious Masters of the 18th Century (Dorfmeister, Maulpertsch) decorate these old buildings and even today excite our admiration. To the North of Sopron, at the foot of the charming Leitha Range, we find in the little old town of Kismarton (Iron Town) the noble castle of Prince Nicholas Esterhazy, one of the most brilliant palaces of Hungary, surrounded by a delightful Park. In the latter is the Leopold Temple which contains a Masterpiece of Canovas, the Statue of a Princess of Esterhazy.
