Proceeding over the Suspension Bridge, we stand at the foot of the Fortress Hill, through which runs a tunnel 350 meters long. A funicular railway takes us in a few seconds to the plateau of the Fortress Hill (68 meters above the level of the Danube). We stand on historical ground, St. George's Place, on which in 1457 Ladislaus Hunyadi, the son of the great conqueror of the Turks, had, although innocent, to lose his life.
