Francis Joseph Square, at the end of the Suspension Bridge, is one of the finest Squares in Budapest. On the North side rises the noble Renaissance edifice of the Hungarian Academy of Science erected 1862--1864 by the Berlin architect Stiller. It contains in the centre building a splendid Festival Hall with beautiful frescoes by Karl Lotz (scenes from the history of Hungarian civilisation) and in the side wings, session and library rooms; lastly the historical picture Gallery, the Szechenyi Museum and the Goethe room. A fine bas-relief by Hollo (on the side of the building) represents the foundation of the Academy by Count Stephen Szechenyi.
