The quarter of the town which extends south of Ulloi Avenue is called Francis suburb. It begins in Calvin Square and extends far out to the outskirts of the town territory. Its development belongs to the last few years, but is prejudiced in no small measure, by the large Goods Station and Warehouses which hinder its access to the Danube. Close to the Francis Joseph Bridge is the chief Custom's House, a huge building in Renascence style, after the plans of Nicholas Ybl; and next to it the imposing Market Hall (designed by Samuel Petz); further down along the Danube, the large bonded warehouses, and the grain Elevator, and in the interior of the suburb, in Bakacs Square we find Francis Town Church, a Roman edifice by Nicholas Ybl, with frescoes by Than and Lotz, and beautiful windows by Kratzmann and Francis Storno.
