The beauty of the situation of Budapest is due partly to the majestic Danube, partly to the hills and mountains bordering the river. The Buda Hills have been since olden times the favourite excursion place of the public. In consequence of modern means of communication, these beautiful hills have naturally become more populated, and colonies of villas have arisen in different parts. No stranger should neglect to ascend the Blocks-berg (Gellerthegy), from whose summit an incomparably beautiful panorama is unfolded to the view.
Other delightful spots in the Buda Hills are the villa-studded Schwaben Hill, and the St. John's Hill, with the imposing Elizabeth Tower.
